Soapstone Fireplace Hearths
Back in 1796, Benjamin Thompson, better known as Count Rumford, made history by significantly improving the performance of the fireplace. One of his improvements include soapstone.
And why not? A soapstone lined firebox absorbs the heat of an open fire rapidly, but releases it slowly over time to keep your hearth and your toes toasty.
In fact, lining a firebox with soapstone improves its efficiency by up to 300% over the use of masonry firebrick. To this day, soapstone continues to be the material of choice for masons and architects when efficiency is a priority.
Soapstone can do as much for the look of your fireplace as it does for its performance. Over the years, VT Soapstone has worked with architects and fireplace designers to create one-of-a-kind fireplace exteriors and trim. The results have been extremely gratifying…for our customers, the designers and for us.
